This is a cross pollination of two genres. There's the people-stuck-in-an-elevator disaster genre; which has been used on episodes of All in the Family and WKRP; also the movie Speed and Damien Omen 2. And then there's the a-monster-is-amongst-us sci-fi genre; which was used in 1982s The Thing; Twilight Zone episodes Will The Real Alien Please Stand Up and The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street as well as Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's these two types of stories mixed together.
