Many fans objected to white actor Christopher Walken playing a role previously played by a Hispanic (Jose Ferrer) and an Italian (Giancarrlo Giannini) actor. However, despite the character's name, the novels do not identify him as Hispanic, Italian, or Middle-Eastern. The surname Corrino was adopted by a member of House Butler to connect his dynasty to the Battle of Corrin, in which humanity defeated the thinking machines.
