The exterior scenes on Ceti Alpha V were filmed on the same part of Paramount Studios stage 8 where the set for Kirk's apartment was later built (however, the apartment set was saved for reuse in Star Trek III - Alla ricerca di Spock (1984)). This part of the stage was later home to the Ten-Forward set on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and sickbay on Enterprise (2001).
