Ross Hull (Gary) was the only actor kept from The Midnight Society from the original pilot, although he originally played Frank. He was recast as Gary. Ryan Gosling had impressed D.J. MacHale during an early audition and was offered one of the roles of the Midnight Society, but he was committed to shooting The Mickey Mouse Club and declined. Once that show ended, he moved back to Canada and was cast in a guest-starring role in the episode "The Tale of Station 109.1".
