Commander D'Acy (Amanda Lawrence) is the first openly gay character seen in a Star Wars movie. It was previously mentioned that Laura Dern's character of Vice Admiral Holdo from Star Wars - Gli ultimi Jedi (2017) is gay, but this was never referenced within the movie.
