Twice remade (without much success) as American films - "The Outrage" in 1964, which turns the story into a western, and "Iron Maze" in 1992, which makes the story into a modern-day crime thriller. It was also turned into a Broadway play in 1959; this version also received TV productions in both America and Britain.
