The film is the first film by David Fincher not to be photographed by cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth since Il curioso caso di Benjamin Button (2008). In fact, it's Fincher's first movie to be shot by Erik Messerschmidt, the cinematographer of the majority of Mindhunter (2017) of which Fincher directed several episodes. Nonetheless, they had already worked on the same film in L'amore bugiardo - Gone Girl (2014), in which Messerschmidt was gaffer. This is also Messerschmidt's feature film debut as a cinematographer; he won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
