Gene Nelson's staircase dance number to "Oh Me, Oh My" was created to showcase Nelson's skills as an athletic dancer, in hopes audiences might come to think of him as Warner Brothers' equivalent of Gene Kelly. It appeared to have worked when Nelson won the 1950 Golden Globe as Best New Star, but in the long run, he never achieved the success expected of him.
