Contrary to popular belief, many of the scenes in Cold Case were not shot on location in the city of Philadelphia. A great number of them, particularly those set in the suburbs on sunny days, were filmed in the state of California. This is also why a great many minor actors throughout the series were Californian. This being said, most of the transition shots between scenes were filmed in Philadelphia, for the purpose of showing culture, architecture and landmarks unique to the location of Cold Case's general plot.
