Director Alan Parker was vocally dismissive of any further attempts to infringe on his work many years after "Fame's" initial theatrical release, considering the TV series of "Fame" "an abomination" and also calling the failed 2009 film remake "reprehensible garbage". As late as 2015, "American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe approached MGM Television to once again attempt another "Fame" television series ("this time around it will be much darker, like the original film") but nothing ever came of it.
