James Gunn wanted Dave Bautista (who had appeared in his previous movies Guardiani della Galassia (2014) and Guardiani della Galassia Vol. 2 (2017)) to play Peacemaker, but Bautista turned it down to play the lead role in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead (2021). Gunn had actually written Snyder's L'alba dei morti viventi (2004) 17 years before, but despite the similar titles, 'Dawn' and 'Army of the Dead' are unrelated movies.
