The 2012 film and this one, both failed to gross more money at the box office, individually matched up against anyone of Sam Raimi's films. Because of this, the studio decided to cancel the series after only 5 years, opting in favor of rebooting the series for a second time. With the appearance of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), it is the start of the recently rebooted series.
