According to Marvel television executive Jeph Loeb, the series was influenced by 1970s crime films like Il braccio violento della legge (1971), Quel pomeriggio di un giorno da cani (1975), and Taxi Driver (1976): "We're approaching this as a crime drama first, superhero show second."
