The scene of Godzilla swimming in the ocean among the navy ships was particularly challenging for the CGI artists. Godzilla was so huge and his movements were so forceful that the simulated water waves created by him kept washing the ships away. The CGI had to be made less realistic for the scene to work. Separate water simulations were created for Godzilla and the ships that didn't interact with each other.
