Since the release of this film, entertainment magazines, websites, and commentators have conducted public polls during real Presidential elections to choose the fictional movie President Americans would like to see in office. Harrison Ford as President James Marshall has "won" every election. Bill Pullman as President Thomas Whitmore in Independence Day (1996) commonly finishes second.
