The fact that Sir John received the curse from the bite of a feral child is a subtle shout-out, in the earliest treatment of the original 1941 version, the titular Wolf Man would have been an orphan raised by wolves. This upbringing would have been the source of his lycanthropy. He received the bite in Tibet, just like Dr. Glendon. The original version of The Wolf Man (1941) did not have a character called Dr Glendon being bitten by a werewolf in Tibet; that was from the 1935 film Werewolf Of London, where Dr Glendon was played by Henry Hull.
