In an interview with Complex in 2016, The Duffer brothers stated John Carpenter as a big inspiration for the music and style of the show. The Guest (2014) also was a large inspiration for the Stranger Things soundtrack and style. In fact the Duffers discovered the band "Survive" from seeing that movie.
