While they marketed the original Scream (1996), Drew Barrymore was shown front and center on the posters, making the audience believe her character was the main character, when she was in fact, the opening kill of the movie. For this film (2022), Jenna Ortega's character is marketed in the opposite manner - she is not in the front on the poster, her name isn't even shown on posters and only one scene she's in is shown in the trailer (a scene mirroring Drew Barrymore's in the original), making the audience believe she is the opening kill. The twist here is the opposite to the original's: she survives the opening and is, in fact, one of the main characters in the movie.
