Colin Trevorrow explained that British actor Varada Sethu stepped in to replace Daniella Pineda after COVID-19 delays meant that Pineda was unable to return to film another scene that had been planned. Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about what it was like to make the film during the pandemic, Trevorrow shared: "There were some travel issues that made it really tough for us. "Daniella Pineda, who is in the opening of the film, actually had another scene later that we weren't able to shoot with her. We replaced her with a British actor, Varada Sethu, who's awesome in the movie." Trevorrow, who helped revive the Jurassic Park franchise with 2015's Jurassic World, explained that the decision was made after travel issues and quarantine requirements made it difficult to shoot the extra scenes. "Daniella was in New Zealand, couldn't leave because she was shooting her show and she would have had to quarantine forever," he shared. "These are things you never take into account when you're planning out a film, so we adapted and found ways around everything because we had the best team available," he added.
