The previous remake, Father of the Bride (1991) featured Diane Keaton as the mother of the bride. The last sequel, Father of the Bride Part 3(ish), featured Robert De Niro as the father of another bride. Andy Garcia appeared with De Niro in The Untouchables, and played Diane Keaton's love interest in Book Club. All three actors appeared in the Godfather film franchise. Keaton appeared in all three films, Garcia in The Godfather Part III, and De Niro in The Godfather: Part II, as Garcia's grandfather.
