This was the first Godzilla film with special effects directed by Sadamasa Arikawa. Eiji Tsuburaya had just started his own company and only supervised the effects work on this and the next two Godzilla films. Arikawa is uncredited in this film, however, with Tsuburaya receiving an honorary special effects credit instead.
