There are many remarkable similarities between the characters T'Challa and Paul Atreides from the movie Dune (2021). . Both are royalty (T'Challa is the son of King T'Chaka, and Paul is the son of Duke Leto). . Both drink a liquid which puts them into a trance and later grants them superhuman abilities (T'Challa consumes the heart-shaped herb which gives him the power of the Black Panther, and Paul ingests the water of life through which he obtains prescience). . Both have a younger sister (T'Challa/Shuri and Paul/Alia) . Both lose their close friend/mentor to enemy violence (Killmonger murders Zuri; the Sardukar kill Duncan Idaho). . Both had fathers who were murdered (King T'Chaka; Duke Leto) . Both are skilled in hand to hand combat . Both are challenged for the throne in a ritualistic fight to the death, and in both cases, they kill their opponent with a knife stab. In both stories, they are related by blood to the challenger (T'Challa and N'Jadaka are cousins, and Paul and Feyd are cousins once removed). . Both are in love with a strong, independent female who happens to be a skilled fighter (T'Challa/Nakia and Paul/Chani). . Once in power, both bring about a fundamental change to their empire (T'Challa chooses to reveal Wakanda's true nature to the rest of the world; Paul takes control of Arrakis, liberating the Fremen and wresting control of spice production from the Empire). . Both characters survive the takeover of their territory because a neighboring tribe offers them refuge (T'Challa is kept alive by the Jibari; Paul and Jessica join the Fremen). . Both rule over empires that obtained their power by mining a precious resource that came from another world (Vibranium originated from a meteor that crashed into Africa; In Children of Dune, we learn that sandworms were not native to Arrakis; they were introduced to that planet from off world).
