The show ended in 1982 because Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson, Griff Rhys-Jones and Mel Smith all wanted to move on and do other projects. After the final season was broadcast, Rowan Atkinson starred in the medieval sitcom The Black Adder (1982). Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones both starred in their own sketch comedy show Alas Smith & Jones (1984) and Pamela Stephenson would co-star opposite Christopher Reeve in Superman III (1983).
