Early in the movie Blake and Schofield discuss Schofield trading a a medal he earned for a bottle of wine. Blake, confused, tells Schofield it's more than just a piece of tin. Later, the letter from the General would've been destroyed in the river if it wasn't in Schofield's tin case.
