Eric's storyline for the last season was resolved two episodes before the finale because Alexander Skarsgård had to begin shooting The Legend of Tarzan (2016). In fact, according to Showrunner Brian Buckner, the only reason why Eric is at all in the last two episodes, with minimum screentime, it's because Skarsgård demanded it so to the producers of the movie, since it was the ending of the show.
