Cascabal prison, rattlesnake in Spanish, may be Terminal Island prison in San Pedro, California. It was built in 1938 on or near what used to be called La Isla de la Culbra de Cascabal and anglicized to Rattlesnake Island, although it lost that name officially in the 1890's when investors wanted build a railroad and seaside resort. It's possible when the movie was made that the old name was still being used but by that time all vestiges of that and Dead Mans Island were gone since 1929, to a new reclaimed man-made Terminal Island.
