David Ayer was set to direct the sequel, but did not come back due to creative differences and the disappointing reception of its predecessor. Ayer was still attached to helm the spin-off Gotham City Sirens, but that project eventually developed without him as "Birds of Prey" for which he is still credited as a producer.
