In the books this series is based on, Uhtred is 9 years old when captured by Ragnar the Elder, 16 at the time of Ragnar's death in the hall burning and 19 at the end of the first book. In the series however Uhtred has aged much more by the time of the hall burning and appears to be in his mid 20s implying a much lengthier stay with Ragnar.
