To correctly perform the sword-fighting scenes and because of the fact that he did not use any stunt doubles for any action scenes, Henry Cavill went through special gym training to prepare his body for the level of stunt work needed. He strengthened his posterior chain (group of muscles consisting of hamstrings, glutes and back muscles) to help create Geralt's pirouette sword-fighting technique where he spins around a lot. He developed his abs and obliques to allow for explosive movement. He built up his shoulder muscles to allow for more muscular strength and control while handling a heavy sword. He bulked up his biceps and forearms to help with endurance during the sword fighting scenes as well as the horse-riding scenes.
