Ray Bradbury loved Bernard Herrmann's score for this film, especially for the final scene. Calling Herrmann "the bastard son of Puccini" (which he meant as a compliment), he suggested they write an opera together. They discussed it over lunch but couldn't agree on a subject. The two never met again.
