At one point as Lance Corporal Schofield (George MacKay) is moving alone through the ruins at night, as his path is lit sporadically by flares, he pauses briefly near a poster on a wall just above a fire hydrant. This is an homage poster of a circus in which Sir Sam Mendes' grandmother grew up in South America during the 1920s and 1930s.
