When Richie's Bang Baby super-powers started to appear, he invented a scouting robot named Backpack which he controlled, allowing him to see whatever the robot saw and broadcast his voice through it. He also invented Zap Caps, which were Bang Baby restraining devices, and Chip Blades, which were roller blades with rocket boosters on the sides that allowed him to fly. After using all of these inventions to save Virgil Hawkins from the Meta-Breed, Richie took the superhero name of Gear and started fighting crime alongside Static. Richie also increased the range of Static's tracers and discovered a way to make Static's flying disc, the Static Saucer, fold up even smaller.
