An earlier draft of the script had a thoroughly different version of the Halloween prank story. The victim would not be an introverted girl but an annoying teenager who had played a lot of pranks to his girlfriend during the past few years. The girl would contrive an elaborate hoax along with the children she babysat and escorted to their trick or treating. They would all lure him into a graveyard (and not a quarry as in the film) under the pretense of conducting a ritual to wake a dead pet cat which belonged to one of the little boys. They would even encounter the serial killer fleeing from Laurie in the woods. After the teenager bumps his head and the prank is revealed (just like Rhonda in the film) the children would realize to their horror that the ritual worked. Even the dead cat was resurrected. The sequence was probably rewritten because it was too effects heavy, featuring a whole army of corpses in various states of decay raising from the ground or the mausoleum. All the children would die and reappear as undead trick or treaters at the end. There was no mention of the bus incident either. As a result Mr Kreeg remains alive after his encounter with Sam and ultimately survives the film.
