The final chase (on foot) and shootout is very similar to a long scene near the end of "Bullitt" (1968), starring Steve McQueen. In both films, the cop and the criminal are chasing each other on the runways, taxiways and other "off limit" areas of a busy airport and shooting guns. (LAX in "Heat", SFO in "Bullitt").
