According to Chris Pratt, shooting this movie helped him come to terms with his father's death. Although he passed away while Pratt was filming Jurassic World (2015) in 2014, the actor didn't really get a chance to deal with the death at the time because he was busy filming and wanted to keep the rest of the cast's spirits up. For a film that director James Gunn has described as a "story about fathers", Pratt was able to open up old wounds that had been healing for some time, and acknowledge the fact that there are some wounds that cannot ever be completely healed, such as the death of a parent.
