Marty Wolf tells Jason that he'll tell his father he wrote Erin Brockovich (2000) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Much like the movie within the movie, both films were inspired by true stories. (Though some of the events of Saving Private Ryan (1998) are fictional, it was loosely inspired by a similar event during World War II.) Another reason why Marty Wolf at least mentioned Saving Private Ryan (1998) is probably because he was in that movie before this one.
