Although John Deacon did indeed come to the band with the now-famous "disco" bass riff for "Another One Bites the Dust" (inspired by spending time with the funk/disco band Chic), the lyrics he brought were in a very rough form at that point, not the final form portrayed in the film. The final lyrics were mostly the work of Freddie Mercury, who spent a considerable amount of time working on the song - in the words of Brian May, Freddie "hammered [at the song] until his throat bled." However, in keeping with Queen policy at the time, Deacon received sole songwriter credit.
