The series was moved to Hawaii before the second season in order to take advantage on a rental lease that would have cost CBS money. Jake and the Fatman was taking over for Magnum P.I. (2018), which was ending. Ironically, Magnum P.I. had been moved to Hawaii for the same reasons; it took over for Hawaii Five-O (1968).
