After Mike Newell declined to return as director, Mira Nair, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Guillermo del Toro, and Matthew Vaughn were approached to direct this movie. Jeunet prefers projects that allow him more creative influence, while del Toro was busy with Hellboy: The Golden Army (2008).
