An early title for this movie was "1984 and ½", a clear reference to George Orwell's dystopian novel '1984' spoofed in this movie, and an homage to Federico Fellini and 8½ (1963). However, then Orwell 1984 (1984) was released, and the idea was scrapped, as there would have been legal trouble with the Orwell estate.
