Goku being a high school student was poorly received by fans, as his anime counterpart didn't have any formal education as he didn't attend school. However, the angle of Goku being a school student was taken from Gohan's story instead, who is Goku's son in the anime, and he did attend school. Goku's film counterpart was given the school subplot his son had in the anime.
