Not only does Stephen King's Fenomeni paranormali incontrollabili (1984) have a similar plot, it features a soundtrack by German electronica band Tangerine Dream. Stranger Things uses a short excerpt from a Tangerine Dream piece called "Horizon" in episode 1.8, Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Upside Down (2016), during the hospital flashback scene.
