This is the final "Star Trek" film to be released before the death of DeForest Kelley; Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy of Star Trek (1966); the final "Star Trek" film to be rated PG; the final "Star Trek" film of the 20th century/second millennium; the first of only two "Star Trek" films not to feature any scenes on or near Earth (the second is Star Trek: Beyond (2016)). By contrast, Rotta verso la Terra (1986) is the only film (as of 2022) to be mostly on Earth (except for the first few minutes) and not show the Enterprise until the very end.
