Matthew Vaughn, who directed X-Men - L'inizio (2011), was supposed to return to direct this movie, but he declined in order to make Kingsman: Secret Service (2014). Bryan Singer, the director of the first two X-Men movies and producer of the franchise, was hired to direct.
