The film's three male leads, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and James Caan, all quit Hollywood and then rejoined Hollywood around the same time, from the early 1980's to the late 1980's or 1990... Brando quit in 1980 after The Formula and returned in 1990, ironically parodying his Godfather role in The Freshman... Pacino quit from 1983 till he worked on Revolution (which was a major flop) in 1986 and then quit again until 1989 when he returned with Sea of Love followed by an Oscar nomination for Dick Tracy (ironically playing a mob boss)... James Caan quit after Kiss Me Goodbye in 1982 until, ironically, working again with Francis Ford Coppola, in Gardens of Stone from 1987 (followed by a partial comeback in Alien Nation and then a major Oscar nominated comeback in Misery).
