Red Guardian's stories in the prison about fighting Captain America prior to Steve being discovered in the ice may be fabrications, or he may have actually fought one of the other super-soldier-serum recipients (see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) for context) or even a time-traveling Steve Rogers in some as-yet-untold adventure. It may also be the version of Steve Rogers who remained in the past after returning the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Endgame.
