During the 1780s, prior to the French Revolution, there was a small industry of pamphlets alleging that Marie Antoinette had scandalous sexual affairs with many people. The pamphlets were mostly motivated by anti-monarchist sentiment, but the most frequent accusation in them was that the Queen had erotic relationships with other women.
