The fact that Ford was played by African-American actor, Yasiin Bey, is not a significant deviation from the source material. Very few details are given about Ford's physical appearance in the book. Additionally, Zaphod and Trillian (who is described as vaguely Arabic looking) are played by American actors Sam Rockwell and Zooey Deschanel.
