Every episode title, until Season 6, Episode 8, "The Mentalist: Red John (2013)", contains a reference to the color red, like "Paint it Red", "Scarlet Fever", "Russet Potatoes", or "Bloodshot". This is because Patrick Jane's nemesis is the ingenious, sadistic serial killer Red John. Beginning with Season 6, Episode 9, "The Mentalist: My Blue Heaven (2013)", Red John has been caught, so this theme is discontinued.
