In the pilot episode at Mooney's Book Store, Beck (Elizabeth Lail) purchases "Desperate Characters" by author Paula Fox, the grandmother of Courtney Love who was married to Kurt Cobain. Beck is later seen wearing a Nirvana T-shirt. Furthermore, the store adjacent to Mooney's on Manhattan's York Avenue is called "Nirvana". Additionally, the LA grocery store Joe works at in season 2 is called Anavrin, which is Nirvana spelled backwards.
